Based in Mexico City, Ricardo Fuentes-Nieva is a distinguished international consultant with a deep focus on development and inequality economics. His research spans a broad spectrum, including climate change, food security, sustainability, and social policy, with an emphasis on understanding income poverty and inequality. He's adept at managing large research teams, working with comprehensive databases, and applying advanced analytical techniques.
Ricardo's notable work is highlighted in the World Development Report 2010 where he served as a chapter author. In his role at the UNDP's Human Development Report Office, he co-authored several Human Development Reports, including the World Bank's 2010 edition. Additionally, he played a key role in producing the first Africa Human Development Report. Before his tenure with UNDP, he worked in Mexico's social development sector and engaged in research at the Inter-American Development Bank.
At Oxfam, Ricardo made significant contributions. As the Head of Research for Oxfam GB from 2012-2015, he led impactful research initiatives to support the organization's global campaigns. His leadership extended to Oxfam Mexico, where he served as CEO from 2015 to 2020, addressing challenges related to poverty, inequality, and human rights.
Recently, Ricardo shifted his attention to consultancy roles. He currently serves as the Chief Economist for Data-Pop Alliance and as the Director of Equity Protection at ODI. He's also involved with the French Development Agency in Mexico, where he aims to reduce regional inequalities.
